Have you ever eaten anything strange or so beautiful that you just had to take a photo? On a trip to Cambodia in 2008, I happened to eat Red Ant Sauce and took a picture! I’m using the pic for this months Expat Focus photo comp which is entitled ‘Foreign Food’. To see my entry and other entries click here.
Wish me luck!

So what did it taste like???
Is that a live red ant walking round the rim? Good luck with the competition.
Tasted a bit like mustard (before we knew what it was we thought it was mustard!). Very acidy and bitter, really bad heartburn after!
The ants were dead thankfully, the ant on the side is one we hooked out of the sauce when we realised they weren’t mustard grains…. YUCK!
We also ate snake which I didn’t like that much.
I’m pretty sure that for some people snails and frogs legs are just as gross but red ants are worse IMHO!
I suppose there’s no shortage of red ants so it’s a sound food source, but still, NO THANKS!
I don’t eat frogs’ legs either. Once and never again.
Ohhhhh! Good luck!
Yes, yes! More commentary about the taste of the ant sauce, pretty please!!
Thanks Karin!
