Oh my! Vivement that the next 6/7 weeks go by quickly and without any major hiccups as I’m truly beginning to wonder whether I’m going to make it to the end of my pregnancy without disaster and whether I should wrap myself up in cotton wool and stay sat on the sofa all day…
After the “bathroom incident” at les Beaux Parents, I’ve had a couple more incidents including nearly falling down a ditch in front of their house whilst driving at 5 kmh (I have no idea where I was looking) and having the removal men take away all my underwear meaning that I had nothing left for the time we are in limbo (okay so it was a good excuse to go shopping!).
But yesterday I nearly made 4 people, 4 cats, 1 dog and a tortoise homeless when I came very close to burning the in-laws house down.
I was off to meet the lovely Mummy in Provence and little Baby in Provence in nearby Orange for lunch and wanted to look presentable so decided to iron my clothes as a normal person would. Except it wasn’t my iron and after fathoming out how the wretched thing worked, I turned it on and left it to heat up, thinking that I’d make the most of it and iron a few of Mr Piglet’s work shirts whilst I was at it.
I entered the absorbing world of internet for all of about 10 minutes and forgot about the iron until I smelt burning. Horror of horrors! The iron had melted and was working its way through the electric cables! Minutes later and I would have been dealing with a fire! A fire in a wooden house!
So now I need to buy a new iron but the MiL isn’t having any of it. She just laughed it off but I am so embarrassed. These poor people must be fed up of me and my accidents already and I’ve only been here for two weeks! By my calculations I’ve got at least another 4 weeks before we move into our new house, I’m just going to have to try really, really hard not to break anything else… I’m using the tumble dryer for the first time this am so wish me luck!
The rest of the day went thankfully without major incident and I had a lovely time with Mummy in Provence and BiP picking up lots of helpful tips on baby care and equipment! I hear BiP is ill today though so I hope she gets better soon! It truly is a pleasure for me to stay in Provence at the moment and hopefully the in-laws will let me come back to visit again once we move out so that I can continue meeting all the great people I’ve met recently.
I did get totally lost driving back from Orange though but it wasn’t all negative. I managed to take a lovely snap of the nearby village to where we’re staying. When I saw it, I thought of Sara in Le Petit Village as it’s just how I imagine Le Petit Village to be…
One last thing, I’ve finally set up a Facebook page… If you’re on Facebook do drop by and say hello – here it is…

Be careful!
OMG….. glad you are ok and that you did not have a fire…..
But I have ben guilty of doing the same, the world of internet can have you hooked for what you think is 5 mins….Take care. xxx
Oh my gosh. I would so do all of those things (lock myself in a bathroom, almost burn down my inlaws)
Once when I was a kid, I thought it would be so awesome to put the butter on the bread before putting it in the toaster…
So, the butter drips down, sets the toaster on fire, and then I didn’t know what to do so I just started screaming. My mom was asleep so she got to wake up to her toaster burning up and her kid screaming and her house almost burning down…
Also, normally I would never be so gauche as to link back to my blog on your comments but, if you’re looking for some empathy, I almost burned down my own house by leaving a candle burning all night. It’s a good story…given that everything turned out ok…Oy (well…the house is fine…)

@Meredith: I am trying! I really am, I’m just dozy!
@Claire: I swear it was only 10 minutes that I was on the internet! But I know what you mean! I’ve often lost track of hours and even days lost on the internet! What I want to know is why an iron melt its stand anyway ? Once Hubby left our iron on for 2 weeks whilst we went away on holiday and it was fine, nothing melted (although we were really lucky and had a HUGE electricity bill)
@Sarah B: Thanks for stopping by and sharing your link as well… it’s not a problem at all, in fact I’m so glad you did as it is hilarious. I agree with your second scenario: Kissinger totally saved you from the fire!! Great story, thanks for the share!
I hate to admit but I recently thought about putting butter on my toast before putting it in the toaster… something stopped me though!
Oh my, Piglet, your adventures keep me in stitches, although I can understand that you may not have laughed so much yourself.
Crossing my fingers for the rest of your stay!!
xo

Things are beginning to feel very unfunny but at least I’m having a laugh afterwards once the tears die down!
Please. Just. Stop. Don’t do anything else. Just relax and save your energy for when you get the overwhelming urge to clean behind the toilet with a toothbrush. When that happens, do it and get ready to meet Ms Piglet because it means she’s on the way. But, for now. No more ironing.
bisous,
aidan
I’m trying, I really am! Last night I dreamed that I had to get all of her stuff ready as I haven’t done anything so I am starting that today – SLOWLY! And no ironing (we don’t have an iron anymore!).
Ironing? You’re 8 months pregnant and ironing? lol
Take the weight off yer feet and have a nice sit down with a book or 10. Make the most of the calm because you’ll need all and more of your energy in a few weeks. Best to store up some no-stress rest right now. Without guilt.
Thanks for the advice – I do keep trying but somehow cannot settle, I’m resting more now that I finally have internet back but I just can’t get comfy on the sofa
As for the ironing, I only wanted to iron one top and pair of jeans – its been ages since I’ve ironed (promise) and even Mr Piglet has started doing his own!
I think this is normal .. when you are pregnant you are forgetful or scatterbrained. At least I used that as my excuse, you can too.
I gained a huge amount of weight with my second baby and found lying on the floor the most comfortable spot … and he was late ! I thought I would be pregnant for years .. it felt like it was years.
besos to you and a gentle pat on the belly for bebe ..
Its beginning to feel like years although I only have six more weeks to go… something tells me it’s going to be the longest six weeks of my life!
Lying on the floor helps me too! Only problem is, I can’t get up afterwards! I’ve also just torn an abdominal muscle so it makes it pretty much impossible now
I’m glad you say that it makes you scatterbrained as well… I have been sat at the PC for 10 minutes now wondering what it was that I am supposed to be doing!
Do sympathise..I hate using other people’s equipment. Whatever it is always seems to turn out to have unexpected quirks.
I’ve left a few irons on in my time…but none of them have melted. A new breakthrough for French technology!
Sod the ironing…enjoy the internet while you have the peace to do so.
As you say “a new breakthrough for French technology”! I still cannot believe it melted and like you, I’ve left a few irons on in the past…
I wish I could profit more from internet but it’s so slow and sitting in front of the PC makes my back ache even more plus hubby has nabbed my laptop as his PC got packed up in the move by accident and he needs to work
Glad you didn’t have a fire. That could have been tragic. I love the Le Petit Village picture in your post. I am always looking for new pretty villages to visit. Can you tell me the name of the village in the picture?
Hi Michel, the village is Clansayes, it is near Saint Paul Trois Chateaux. There isn’t much there (no shops or anything) but on a clear day the views are stunning. The nicest drive to get there is via Montsegur which is the way I went by accident. There are quite a few lavender fields and it’s going to be a stunning drive later on in the summer. Nearby you can also visit Grignan which is nice and the herb gardens in La Garde d’Adhemar (sp?).
I’ll be relieved when you have delivered Miss Piglet and are no longer a danger to yourself and anybody within a 20 k. radius.
If you suddenly find yourself doing something completely out of character – with me it was embroidering a picture of forget-me-nots – you know your time has come.
Good luck, and remember – breathe – breathe – breathe.
LOL! I have been knitting like a trooper for the last few days, never knew how to before!
I’m going to look up breathing on the internet as have already forgotten what the midwife told me to do in the lessons!
I feel bad that you felt that you had to iron something to come meet us … as you could tell from both BiP and I , the iron is somewhere in our house covered in dust!
Hope to see you soon! rest up mama!
I wasn’t ironed in the end! I haven’t ironed in ages, probably why it was such a disaster!
Hi Piglet! I hope all is well with you and you didn’t have any further “incidents”
XOXO
thank you! I don’t think I could stomach any more incidents!
Don’t feel bad! I hate ironing!! Beautiful village! I wish we had villages in Florida!!
