The day has finally come – move in day! We’ll soon be setting off, Baby Piglet, Mr Piglet, our two cats and me. Leaving the in laws house empty of our mess after over 3 months of living with them. We’ll be a small procession of vehicles: a large 23 m3 van, our car with me and Baby Piglet and my in laws. Yes, they’re coming too as I still can’t drive or do much so we need their help.
I’m still amazed by the amount of stuff I have bought since I left Lyon on 22nd Feb. We struggled to get everything in and I spent the last few hours praying that Mr Piglet wouldn’t come and tell me there was no room left.
Finally everything is ready and we’re off to finally start our new life in the country. Its not without nostalgia though. We’ve been through such a tough time and it’s only thanks to my in laws that I was able to leave hospital.
We’ll miss having my Mother in Law on hand to bombard with questions: is this normal? How do I…? Her knowledge has been gained from years working with babies in a creche has been indispensable as Mr Piglet and I tried to find our way around parenthood. Its going to be like coming home from the hospital all over again.
I still can’t believe this day has finally arrived. It seems surreal.

yep, we’re savouring every moment and once the basics are sorted we’re going to make the most of the garden and local area. The rest can wait!
Hi, I just came across your site and started to read about your birth story, gripping on the side of my seat and my heart aching for the trauma you went through. I’m glad that I found your site just now, knowing that things are improving and you are feeling better. Otherwise, I would be crying all day!
I’m also an english speaking foreigner, married to a Portuguese and living in Lisbon. I guess I was empathizing with you in terms giving birth in a place where you can’t communicate fluently with the hospital staff and not knowing what’s going on. My birth went fine in the end, nothing compared to what you went through but I did feel a but humiliated when I ended up being a study for the medical students without my consent. I never imagined that my first birth was a stage act with a full audience.
Well, just wanted to say congratulations for getting this far with all that you’ve been through. Super jealous that you have a garden and all that beautiful nature around you! You will love it 100 times more than you do already when your little daughter starts to crawl and walk.
Hi Wendy, thanks for stopping by and sorry that you had to read this on your first visit.
Did you know you were giving birth in a teaching hospital? I had one midwife student assist but was asked from the outset. it is disgusting that they didn’t get your consent before and totally disrespectful during such a time. I can understand why you felt humiliated.
The sad part is, I am fluent in French although I may not as well have been given my experience.
