First Impressions

Chez nous
Moving day was interesting.
The old owners were still moving out. They were supposed to have given us the keys on Wednesday but weren’t ready. They had a wardrobe to move still which took them 4 hours to dismantle and take out. It wasn’t a big wardrobe either. Words failed me but I no longer care so I watched on amused. No wonder they weren’t ready to move on time – they had made a simple job super complicated!
A few things have stood out for me since we arrived:
1. There are cows (brown and white ones, not Milka ones unfortunately) at the end of the garden.
2. The postman honks when he gets here and then stays in his car. I wondered what on earth was going on this morning.
3. Its cooler inside the house than it is outside, we all need to wear an extra layer, Baby Piglet included! I had been told to expect this but found it hard to imagine. The house is made of pise which in its brut state to me looks like weetabix. Its a traditional building material for old farm houses in these parts and keeps the warm in in the winter and out in the summer. Clever stuff!
4. Storms here are much scarier than in the city.

I lived in country side sice I was 15 years old and my mom and dad still live there. So for me is quite usual to use an extra blanket during summer days, when outside is a canicula.:)
I wish you all the best in this house, to find your happiness and Lily-May to enjoy the most beautiful time of her life… She’ll be indeed free, to search to yard, to see new and exciting forms of nature: bugs, cows, storms, spring and winter…
Hugs!
Thanks Alma! I think it’s a great opportunity for her to grow up in the countryside but it’s going to take some getting used to for her parents! LOL!
Congratulations on finally making it. I’m sure it really will become ‘chez-vous’ soon. Kids toys all over the place will see to that, amongst other things.
Merci
Baby things have already invaded pretty much every room! I’m having to learn to be tidy otherwise Mr Piglet’s going to blow a fuse!
Our house is always colder inside than out as well. Cats rather than cows though.
ah we have the cats as well
There’s also lots of minature looking dogs around here and quite a few horses too…
I’ve never lived in a house where it’s colder in than out before so it’s taking some getting used to putting a cardigan on when I come in rather than when I go out…
Enjoy your new home!
merci
Good luck in your new home! I’ve been watching all your trials an tribulations. It looks like a great house and I hope you’ll be happy there. Our house is stone – great for cooler temperatures in the summer.
What are the cows – vache normande? They have spectacle patches around the eyes.
Thanks Gillpj, it’s certainly been a trying adventure but definitely worth it!
We’re definitely enjoying the cooler temperatures inside, it’s so less tiring and we’re save a fortune on aircon! We used to have it on all the time in the summer when we lived in Lyon.
I don’t know about the cows, they are brown and white and have lots of patches. I’m such a city girl! I’ll take a pic and will post soon (once I adventure close enough…)
You must have thought that your notaire had included the ex owners among the fixtures and fittings!
Our house was always much cooler within than without in summer and the reverse in winter. Walls one metre thick.
Saves on the heating and air conditioning bills!
I wonder when the postman will decide to come up to the house for coffee…he’s probably used to avoiding the ex owners like the plague.
Enjoy your new home.
Hey Fly! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, we did double check and triple check the Compromis! Would you believe we only got rid of them FOREVER (I hope) this Wednesday 15th June? I can now finally dance naked in the garden if I want (not that I will!).
I’m enjoying the coolness of the house already and buying lots of things for Baby Piglet with the money I save on having the aircon on!
The postman is still honking, he doesn’t even get out of the car to put the post in the box. I haven’t yet dared venture down, I just observe from upstairs. I will soon though although I still look a bit of a state!
Lovely house, Piglet and glad you’re now safely moved in. Our house here in the UK is old and stone-built and always cooler inside than out in summer, especially downstairs. In really hot weather you’ll really appreicate that, believe me.
Thank you Perpetua. Yes, we’re beginning to realise how great the thick walls and the coolness are. We were a bit shocked (and cold) at first, but once we’d found the jumpers and bought some warmer clothes for baby we’re appreciating it.
I love what little I have seen of that house !!
And cows at the end of the garden, how perfect is that ?
Figures they would not be out in time , you will have to have a Good Riddance party when you are finally settled in ..
Vanquish all the old musty spirits of those mean spirited people .. good riddance !!
I would rather see and hear cows outside my windows than the cars that drive by .. hear cows and mailmen honking once a day rather than what is outside my window lol … see where this is going ?
….. Honey, let´s move to the South of France !
I hope you are feeling stronger and having no more pain .. besos.
Hi Candice! We had our good riddance party on Wednesday. It didn’t last long. A few sips of wine and I was drunk and went to bed! Boy did I have a headache the next am
I’ll put some more pics of the house up once it’s in a presentable state. At the moment each room is full of boxes and bags…
You have cows! That’s going to be fun for Baby Piglet when she’s older
Hopefully the rain will stop soon x
The rain has stopped and the sun is out! Youpeee!!!!!
The cows are great, as long as there are no chickens I’ll be happy.
Cows!! I would love to have cows at the end of my garden! Sorry to hear that the former owners found a way to make your life difficult up until the very last minute, but now they are gone and you are at home!
we’re getting horses opposite! Just found out as an old boy was out there with his tractor (yes, we get tractor jams here) and horses are coming! It’s such a change to Lyon…
Hooray – you’ve arrived at last! We should all raise a glass to the three of you this evening! All the best.
Thank you!
Congratulations on finally getting into your new home. Cows at the end of the garden; wish we did too! Adds a certain charm. I like seeing the baby carriage in front.
The cows are wonderful but I’m wondering if seeing them all the time will make me go vegetarian? Its hard to see food in its original state as an animal rather than in its ready to eat state. This is going to take some getting used to!
I love your house so far
thank you! so do we
Goodness, they found it THAT hard to leave!! Thank god they are now gone though, bet you didn’t invite them back for drinks once you settle in!!
Oh Sarah, if only you knew (and I had the courage to write) the half of it! They finally vacated the workshop this Wednesday – we have seen them every day and not once invited them in. I just couldn’t bring myself to speak to them. Thank goodness they’re gone!
Hi PiP! I had to take a break and regain myself! I sure hope you can find me! My blog name is Winds of change. I’ve changed it totally. Figured I’d try something different! I won’t give up! LoL…
Hi, thanks for stopping by. I’ll check out your blog soon
So glad that after all your difficulties over the last few months you have finally got your gorgeous baby and the house you wanted. Life is good, yes?
Life is fabulous!
