Recent events at work have caused me to lose faith in humans, total lack of respect and consideration for others and downright selfishness have made me wonder even more about the world we live in.
However, I am so thrilled to have participated in a natural act of kindness and forgiveness that I am somewhat more convinced that decent folk do exist.
This morning, Little Piglet, now nearly 23 months, was unfortunately scratched by our cat Princess. LP was very upset and suffered a superficial wound to her forehead.
This evening, LP was clingy and upset
before bathtime and kept pointing to the bobo on her head and my bedroom where the unfortunate incident had taken place. Recognising her fear, I wanted her to see the cat and overcome her worries as afterall we do all live in the same house.
So I sat down with LP on my knees and my cat next to me, cuddling both of them. Next thing I know, LP is telling Princess that she was hurt from her scratching and was showing her the injury. Then suddenly she lent over and cupped her head in her hands, ever so gently, and landed her a kiss before getting up and going off to play. She had explained her feelings to the cat and offered her forgiveness.
I am astounded that someone not even two can relate in such a way.

Ah poor LP. How did the cat respond to her forgiveness and the kiss?
with cuddles
Cats are very intelligent!
She’s two. You’ve brought her up. Her world is one where you live together…Princess is part of her world.
She hasn’t had to face a world where dog eat dog is encouraged; where the powerful like to see their underlings compete for shadows.
Long may she stay out of it.
Here here! One of my wishes is that she gets a true childhood and manages to stay a child for as long as possible and I really hope that rural France will help us in achieving this. One of the motivating factors for leaving Lyon was the 8 year olds going on 16 and the dog eat dog nature of the kids.
Children can so often teach us instead of the other way round
Absolutely! I have learned so much from her already it’s amazing.
She sounds a lovely little girl, and you’re doing a great job bringing her up, Piglet.
thanks *blushes*
Well done for dealing with it in exactly the right way. What a dear little girl…a credit to you x
Thank you! I do hope that I am doing it all “right” but when I see things like this I know it is not for me to tell her what to do, but for me to guide her in avoiding things that are wrong.
Hard to imagine she is two already. So much has changed in your life since the first time I stumbled on your blog. Back then you were not pregnant yet and living in Lyon. You clearly are doing a good job of raising her.
Yup, tell me about it! I would have liked to blog about some of the more recent changes but didn’t have the energy or the time unfortunately. Looking back at some of my old posts it’s as if someone else wrote them!
I love this story!
Thank you
