I’ve been a bad blogger, no updates and no visits to my favourites blogs – sorry everybody, I should have my knuckles rapped! To be honest nothing has changed this end, we still don’t have a house to move into and we are still searching…
Last week we visited a beautiful house but it was next door to a chicken farm. Whilst there weren’t THAT many chickens (probably about 30 chickens, guinea fowl and cockerels all combined) they didn’t half make a racket and they didn’t seem to like me too much when I went over to speak to them. They made so much noise the old farmer boy (complete with flat cap) came out to see what was happening! I must have been quite a specimen as he couldn’t stop staring at me and my baby bump but he was very pleasant – obviously not used to seeing many foreigners around those parts! I can say that that is one property that we will not be buying as I’m not quite ready for total countryside immersion and living on a farm!
As for not visiting my fave blogs, sorry everyone! I’ve had killer back ache due to having a generally bad back before being pregnant and the growing nany bump has been progressively making it worse and worse. I can now barely sit in front of the PC without being in pain but I now have a back support belt and twice weekly massages so things are looking up… Plus I bought myself a hot water bottle – heaven! I’m just beginning to catch up with work so I’ll be back to check you all out soon. If anyone has any tips on relieving pregnancy back ache I’m all ears! Currently lying down helps but that’s about all…
I guess I haven’t read enough of your older blog posts, I didn’t know you were pregnant. Congratulations! I have to go backwards in time and read more.
Instead of the hot water bottle, try an electric heating pad. They usually come with about 3 settings and I find them great. I use one all the time for aches and pains.
Good luck with the house hunting. 🙂
hi there Classyrose! Thanks for stopping by and for your tip! I’ve not found a heating pad per se but am looking out for them… I’ve spoken to our local pharmacy who’s trying to find out about them for me.
Take care, don’t worry about us. Good luck on the house hunt!
Don’t strain yourself and take it easy with bloggers 🙂 We understand! Good luck with the house hunt – I hope you’ll find something great soon! xox
So sorry to hear about your back, Piglet! I had really bad sciatica in October and for the first five months or so i’d wake up in the middle of the night screaming with my leg muscles in a knot. and a friend recommended I see a chiropractor. I went for two sessions and it completely cleared up the leg pain and did a good job relieving the sciatic pain as well. I would love to have twice weekly massages though .. that sounds really nice!!
Feel better.. take it easy, get lots of rest and make sure you are drinking lots of water and taking care of yourself! 🙂
Hi Amber, is a chiropractor called the same in France? I have seen an osteopathe and they managed to sort out some of the pain but the pain that is really awful is muscular and due to the bump growing unfortunately.
As for the massages, would you know that they’re not that great as you cannot lie down so you have them sitting up? Sitting up is the most painful position for me so I can’t really say that it’s all that relaxing 😦
It’s alright Piglet – we’re quite happy blogging about you in your absence – you take it easy and…..
Save up your pennies for the housie that I rather liked!
All the best
Keith
P.S. Chickies are fun!
At least, our’s are!
Hi Keith, you nasal capacity is obviously less sensitive than mine or you have lots less chickens than the farm next to the property!!! I’m sorry to say that Mr Piglet and I have finally made a decision and it doesn’t involve any poles or pools! Sorry!!! We will have a barn though so maybe barn dances?
How many chickens do you have?
Ahhh I love this post.
I love hot water bottles. I have mine at the ready every evening, nothing better that and a cuppa.
The two massages sounds like a good idea, hope they are working.
Good luck with your house hunting something will come along soon and take care.
xx
Thanks Claire!
I would see if you can get a referral for a chiropractor. It helps along with message. Her in the states some insurance pays for massages during pregnancy. If not inlist your husband who knocked you up in the first place to give you nightly massages. Hot water bottles are great. Hang in there because before you know it your little muffin will be here.
Hi Kelleyn, we’re lucky in France too, I get all my massages paid for so it’s bliss, they’re just not that comfortable! I get Mr Piglet to massage my legs as I get really bad restless leg syndrome at night but the poor bloke has a manky wrist (he had a major wrist operation last autumn) so it’s a bit difficult for him. I love my hot water bottle! Its beginning to get quite scary, just twelve weeks to go!!!
Having no sprog of my own, I can’t really give any back pain advice. But I had sciatica pain 2 years ago and stretches combined with kiné appointments and walks around my neighborhood helped me (though the walks were really painful at first).
I do have to say you probably echappé’d belle from the house next to the chicken farm – I have a lot of experience in that area, and sometimes those things can get smelly, especially when it’s hot!!
Hi Ksam
thanks for the tip ref walks, I have found getting up and going for a walk around (albeit not outside as it’s so darn cold right now!) really help relieve the pain when it gets too much.
The smell of the farm was what really put me off, I have very sensitive smell and my Mum reminding me of my first reaction to the riding stables when I had a poney confirmed that it wasn’t for me… Apparently the only thing I said was how much it smelt bad and did horses come without the smell!
I hope your back is feeling better and a dream house comes your way soon.
Thanks Meredith, the back is better and the house maybe not quite the dream but perfect in everyway possible is here too!
I sympathise with the back pain. My daughter suffered with sciatica during her first pregnancy and it’s starting up again with this second one. She also found that massage helped. There’s little else that helps when you’re pregnant except the hot water bottle of course. Maybe the heat pads might also be good?
Don’t worry about blogging and catching up with other blogs. You have more than enough on your plate at the moment.
Sending you hugs (( ))
Thanks Ayak. I hope your daughter isn’t suffering too much? It’s reassuring for me that she’s having another baby though, means it’s all worthwhile!
I gained a huge amount of weight with my second child and had backaches for about 6 months of the pregnancy.
Lying on the floor , flat, letting it all settle into place seemed to help the most.
Massage as often as possible is always good..
And of course, quit picking up things off the floor, stop bending over for things, ask other people to do things for you and pamper yourself as much as possible.
Hi Candice, yes, the lying on the floor business really helps. Its just a bugger to get up afterwards and very comic for onlookers!
Hope your back feels better soon. Lots of tea and hot water bottles 🙂
Just look after yourself….the rest can see to itself.
There are a couple of very simple exercises that you can do that may help the back pain. They help mine when nothing else does.
One is to kneel on the floor on all fours, like a dog, and gently round your back upwards then let it down a few times. Best not to do it in front of a window where passing strangers may see you. 🙂
The other – and I don’t know if the baby bump might get in the way or not – is to lay on your back, hold your knees with your hands, raise your head a little and gently rock backwards and forwards, rather like a rocking horse, and from side to side.
Both these movements stretch the back muscles. Given your “condition”, the operative word is “gently”.
thanks merewoman for the tips! I have tried the dog one and it is very helpful, the stretching helps relieve the muscles especially if I do it after a hot water bottle.
The other excercise I haven’t been able to do as I can’t lift my legs off the floor, I don’t know if it’s normal or not but I’m going to speak to my midwife this week about it… I’m not very fit right now!
I had sciatic pain when I was pregnant too, it’s terrible! I remember lying on the beach one day and being unable to get up. I had to get my 4-yr old son to help pull or push me into an upright position.
Take care of yourself.
literally a beached whale!!! You were very brave to lie on the beach in a pregnant state, I don’t know if I would dare right now 😦
How many weeks are you now? Anyway, I don’t think I could handle a chicken farm. Did you see that episode of Sex in the City? Noisy little buggers…
I am now 28 weeks so quickly approaching the finishing line!!!! I hate to admit but I’ve never watched Sex in the City… I tried on a few occasions but I have difficulty in watching something if I don’t watch it from the beginning so I’ve always fancied getting the box sets but just never got round to getting them…
Good luck with your house hunting. Hope your back feels better soon!
Oh poor you. I have been there, too, and it was awful!! Acupuncture helped for me. And pregnancy yoga. And sitting on a ball instead of a chair. Hope you’ll be feeling better soon! xx
I’ve been hoping to find a pregnancy yoga class but with the move and everything I haven’t been able to find much as I never know where I’ll be! I’ll have to look into getting a ball PDQ!
